Always in the Saddle: "If on earth, there was paradise, 'TIS on a horse's back' it lies."

Maharaj Karan Vijay Singh, fondly known as KV, was born on April 4th, 1966, to Maharaj Adhiraj Shri Sobhag Singhji Sahib Bahadur and the Princess of Samode Nathawatji Rani Indira Kumari Sahiba, granddaughter of Mohan Shamsher Rana (Royal family of Nepal). KV is the great-grandson of H.H. Maharaja Sardar Singh Ji, the great-grandson of Rao Jodha.

In keeping with the family's tradition, he completed his schooling and graduated from the country’s leading educational institution - Mayo College Ajmer and Baroda M.S. University.

On January 30th, 1996, KV married Kunawarani Shweta Kumari Sahiba, daughter of Kumar Chandra Pratap Singh of Jindora, U.P. The couple is blessed with two sons – Bhanwar Janmejai Singh Rathore and Bhanwar Kartikeya Singh Rathore.

KV is a dynamic sportsperson who dons many hats. His passion for sports runs in his blood, and from an early age, he enjoyed football, riding, and shooting. This national-level cycle polo player finally found his true calling in equestrian polo.

Maharaj KV Singh's natural poise, charm, and confidence, both on and off the polo field, have marked him as a symbol of India's rich culture and history across influential global circles. With Ranbanka Palace, a Classic Heritage Hotel in the Blue City, and other properties that belong to him and his wife in Rajasthan and the Kamoun region, including Chowkori Tea Estates and the Corbett National Park.

Derived from the Rathore war cry, Ranbanka Palace is a part of the residence built for KV's grandfather, Maharajdhira Sir Ajit Singh Ji, in 1927. It is his home, and a part of it was commissioned as a Heritage Hotel.

KV is an avid traveler who has extensively explored most parts of the world. His favorite destinations are across Europe and Zambia, where he enjoys the adventurous and challenging sport of hunting.

Although his many contributions to the game of kings cannot be recounted in this single story, as one of Jodhpur's first players in recent times, his contribution to re-igniting the polo scene in the Blue City must be noted. His legendary hospitality, high-bred horses, and happy disposition have played an instrumental role. KV is a veteran of the Jodhpur Eagles, where he brings his experience to bear on the No.3 position, the pivot.

With a successful business venture and enough time for travelling, polo, and their two sons, KV and Shweta have now turned their attention towards reviving their other properties. "If one looks at heritage sites in India, there is a lot of apathy and negligence in maintaining them. We need an achievable, time-bound plan to preserve the rich cultural, priceless, but crumbling heritage of India."

His life has been a fascinating journey. Today, he is developing new properties and enhancing old ones, maintaining his farms, travelling extensively with his wife and sons, and, of course, playing what he loves the most—polo, for polo is his life.

The equine world has always been KV's first love, and for him, nothing matches the thrill of hooves galloping on turf. KV has carved a niche for himself as both a champion of Indian heritage and culture and a globe-trotting polo enthusiast.

Although Ranisa was interested in psychology, she pursued a degree in philosophy with honors from Delhi University. She also had a passion for sports, particularly swimming and riding, and even represented Delhi State nationally and played tennis.

Shweta Rathore’s family hails from Jindaurah in Uttar Pradesh, a jamidari where the family held the title of Jamidars (Feudal Lords) for over 300 years. Her paternal ancestors trace their lineage to the famous Chauhan rulers of Ajmer/Abu Rajasthan, the most famous being Prithvi Raj Chauhan of Delhi. Her Maternal side hails from the Himalayan region now known as the Uttarakhand state. Her maternal Grandfather was a great philanthropist, having donated schools and universities for the upliftment of his people and owned several thousand acres of landed properties in Uttarakhand and U.P.

Shweta's marriage to a royal family came as a surprise when RK Karanvijai proposed to her with an engagement ring while the two were riding. Interestingly, they got engaged three times.

As a couple, they spend a good portion of their time traveling the international Polo Circuit, visiting countries such as England, Brazil, Holland, Egypt, Portugal, and Germany. They also own Ranbanka Palace, a heritage hotel in Jodhpur. Rani's life as a princess has been a series of observations and learning the rules of the game. She works closely with the family's Ranbanka hotel in Jodhpur, which includes Ajit Bhawan Palace, her residence.

At the Ranbanka Palace, Shweta along with her husband was responsible for the conceptualization and building of the hotel and is at present in charge of running the operations/marketing of this now-popular Palace Hotel. Shweta is also responsible for Strategizing, Formulation, induction, and implementation of Marketing Norms, systems, and practices that are employed at the Hotel and has made a significant contribution in all spheres of marketing, and the creation of effective Reservations systems at Ranbanka Palace

After the resounding success of the Ranbanka Palace, Shweta has taken up further projects that enable her to use the skills and resources that she has generated over the years in Jodhpur. Some of her current projects include the revival of her 100-year-old Ancestral Tea Gardens in Uttarakhand to promote tea tourism in that region. She is also in the initial stages of conceptualizing an of its kind Spa Resort spread over 100 acres in Nainital and the development and sale of cottages & real estate in Nainital.

She also ensures a sense of cultural and economic continuity for various artisans, musicians, and dancers who have had erstwhile royal patronage.

Following in the footsteps of his ancestors, he finally succumbed to his love for polo while pursuing his undergrad in Rajasthan.

At the age of 13, Kartikeya played his first polo season in India (Delhi-Jaipur-Jodhpur), with a handicap of -2, and became the youngest Indian polo player. He was also ranked amongst the top 16 polo players by LA Polo and has been recognized as the Most Promising Upcoming Player in India.

Kartikeya has an unbridled passion for sports and enjoys riding, shooting, football, and cycle polo with the zeal of a true athlete. He has also pursued a course in mountaineering from Le Rosey School’s Summer Camp.

Kartikeya is also a philanthropist by nature and provides a loving home to displaced or injured animals. The philanthropist in him believes not only in winning the tournament but also in taking utmost care of both the participating horses and the retired horses equally.

Despite his tender age, he has led the rehabilitation of countless animals. He has commanded the transformation of his family’s lands into an animal shelter in Jaipur, and a camel reserve in Jodhpur. What started as an 8-year-old’s innocent efforts to house a few homeless animals, has today turned into a full-time initiative that is also generating employment for underprivileged villagers.
